This archive relates to a half day short course presented by myself and Karen F. Tilton, PLS, SR/WA, CFeds. The full title was "ROW Mapping Case Studies: The Older I Get the less I know..." I will admit to coming up with the title as it reflects on my revelation that as things keep changing and new information is always being discovered, we need to constantly be in learning mode. A researcher who concludes that they have reached the point where they know it all... has failed.
At the time of this presentation, Karen and I had both been DOT&PF Northern Region ROW Engineering Supervisors and had moved to the R&M Consultants, Inc. ROW Services Section. We took this opportunity to share a couple of the ROW research projects we had worked on in order to enlighten the professional surveying community as to the complexities and ambiguities that can be found in this specialized area. Note that the documents below are limited to only the case studies that I presented. Karen presented a case study on the Palmer-Richardson Highway focusing on the Glenn Highway: Palmer to Chickaloon. At this point of my archive development, I am limiting my posted documents to those projects that I have participated in and so have not included Karen's presentation.
To the right is a 2019 photo of the ROW "Engineering" gang that I worked with over the years. This was taken at a lunch break during the 53rd Alaska Surveying & Mapping Conference. On the left side we have Karen Tilton, Jim Sharp and myself. On the right side: John Curtwright, Larry King and my wife Lisa. Karen, Larry and John C. all worked with me at Northern Region ROW. John C. transferred to Central Region and worked for Jim Sharp. All at the table (except Lisa) are professional land surveyors.
