My primary hard drive containing project and document archives is referred to as the "Brain Jar". Currently it contains 487GB of data consisting of 374,162 files in 42,961 folders. These files relate to surveying & ROW projects, research and information that I have collected during my career at DOT&PF Northern Region ROW, R&M Consultant's Inc. and various independent papers. This is far more files than I will ever be able to upload to the rowalaska.net website and beyond the 50k document limit for my current search engine.
I have previously mentioned that the files necessarily contain duplicates and reproductions of varying quality. This is due to the fact that as I research a project I will copy the supporting documents to that folder for background and easy access. Also, many of the documents were obtained from a variety of sources using scanning and optical character recognition software of varying quality.
The Odds & Ends collection is a selection of right-of-way research and survey documents that I had collected in my "Agencies", "Archives" and "History" folders.
Please note that as I prepare the files for uploading, I first run them through PDF compression software to increase the upload and download speeds. I then split files in an attempt to keep the maximum size below 10mb. This is not always possible with map images so I might reduce the image size or resolution. If you find a document on rowalaska.net where you have a need for a higher quality image, let me know and I will see if I can find a better original quality document in my files.
